White Tree Nymph

Posted by
Eric Cousineau (Sherwood Park, Canada) on 23 May 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

The White Tree Nymph(also known as the Paper Kite, Tree Nymph or Large Tree Nymph), has a wing span of 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 inches (9.5-11 cm.). The White Tree Nymph prefers coastal mangrove swamps and are common to Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan. This large beautiful white and black butterfly has a slow gliding flight. Their ghost-like appearance in dense forest has led to many local legends. The larvae feed on Parsonsia, Cynanchum and Tylophora.
